Flutwacht – ‘Herbstrost’ CD (Deserted Factory) Print E-mail
Written by Zenon Gradkowski

Flutwacht is the project of Daniel Simon, a prolific project spanning numerous releases. The nine untitled tracks that make ‘Herbstrost’ are the first I have ever heard by them.

Herbstrost starts civilly enough with the first two tracks offering some deep drones creating some unexplainable but well executed atmospheres. Track three continues on from here, but soon falls into a good combination of atmosphere and low level noise. Don’t misunderstand me this is no simple back to basics noisician, it takes a subtle build up of three tracks for Simon to really start delivering the goods but in this time he presents an excellent grasp of controlling atmosphere, slow drones combine with other sounds. Flutwacht soon gives the listener a harsh battering without peaking too early.  By then it is evident that Simon is beginning to full fill his true agenda, a good brutal kick without any bullshit. By now we are in full on peaking beating mode, by track five I am positively ecstatic, broken beats combine with fractured sound if noise. Simon uses pulsing sounds in parts, layering bassy beats underneath to build upon, a solid grounding for the true harsh goods to be delivered.

‘Herbstrost’ uses a lot of low level distortion upon which we are delivered pure roots noise which eventually winds down during the last two tracks!!  The final track offers a long changing drone. This is a well executed album that gradually builds to a climax; you don’t need to only hear a few tracks and the whole album is a well structured journey. If noise could be broken into terms of fine wine, this would be vintage. Thank you Flutwacht!! XXXXXXX
