The Smoking Rolo Sideshow; this is their debut self released album with a revolving door line-up. Basically they are a good unaffected rock band favoring soulful driving consistent no – frills rock. A kind of modern pub – rock, and none of that is meant as criticism, it’s nice top hear a group rock out in a non contrived image free roots way.

Dirty brooding big guitars drive tracks, balladry and slowness is kept cheese free. I initially thought the guitars were slightly too far down in the mix , however singer Ben Greener has a convincing and emotive style of vocal which works smoothly within each song.

Also The Sideshow seem to have actually thought out their track listing and actually done enough songs to be able to pick out their best tracks to make an album. If only all mainstream rock did this right from the garage variety to the arena variety.
